Sad spammers

Postby Kevin Tea » Thu Mar 01, 2007 5:28 am

Seeing some jerk planting another spam link to a dodgy web site that will sell aardvark extract to enhance the length of your little toe made me wonder how and why they do it.

They obviously have to sign in and register with forums such as this and then sow their little seed of junk.

I have this vision of some idiot spending hours online joining forums and planting garbage for hour upon hour each day. Can it really be financially viable?

Unfortunately they use software to do the job for them and as such they're spamming more then this forum alone.
Slaven already took counter measures, but still some get through.

Some are individuals who sign in, others use automated tools.
I guess some people take the bait, so yes, it's financially viable. Also their website is registered by Google bots & others, so they'll get further up the list.
Phishing mails are also to be taken seriously. Here it has increased a lot lately. :x

Anyhow that topic has been removed and the user deleted.
We're cleaning as much as we can, but we aren't always online.

Eric

There was no criticism of the Poco team intended, I help run and participate in a lot of fora and it is a common problem. I just had this bizarre image of some sad little individual surgically attached for houres to his PC planting porn spam instead of going out and getting la.. ,er a life

I did read last year there was a service of some sort whereby if you used the URL placed by spammers, the tables were turned by automated emails of complaint inundating the spam site. And in one of the UK papers they said that something like 78 per cent of all email is now spam.

So it goes, as dear old Kurt Vonnegut would say.

I didn't take it as criticism, but rather wanted to respond to what members are seeing here.

Indeed it is and every admin, moderator is doing its best to limit the damage done. :)

Yep, some time ago I received a PM from aVast forum. Someone sending PM's to members, but disguised as coming from the admin. It turned out to be porn spam.

Alwill send an email to all its member the day after apologizing for this. :)

Yes, I read about that and even the tool at Wilders where members place fake orders in order to hurt them where it hurts best, namely their money.

It's not easy to put a spammer down and as such I recall 'Blue Frog' which was taken down by spammers DOS-attacks en masse.

It's

Do have a great weekend though.
