Making timed backups

Postby robin » Sun Mar 05, 2006 2:23 am

While PocoMail and Barca have the ability to make backups of your mail folder, address books etc, it can't do it on a timed basis (e.g. every day at 10pm).

Microsoft have released a SyncToy that permits you to synchronise the files on one folder with another. The link gives details, including how to set up a timed job using the task scheduler. This is a free download for those with genuine XP, and it only runs on XP.

Seems like an ideal tool, provided PM / Barca don't lock the files that they are using in such a way as to prevent the SyncToy getting to them.

Your post sparked my interest. I have been using SyncBack for over a year now. It does everything the Sync Toy does and more. There is a free version and a pay version ($25 US). Pay version backs up locked files in XP. Review it Here.

I've been doing this for many years using a trusty old batch file. It's not pretty, but works like a champ. :P
