McAfee Anti-Spam and Barca

Postby mrgrieves » Sun Mar 14, 2010 12:27 am

I'm getting a little fed up of Barca's in-built spam protection. I can't believe after training it for years that I still get Viagra emails in my inbox!

I've recently bought a new laptop which came with McAfee and I notice it has an Anti-Spam component.

Does anyone know how I can get this to work with barca? The help ssems to suggest that it just works automatically but I'm sure it's not doing anything.

Thanks!

It's not easy to eliminate those spam messages. Even with a third party spam filter, it could still get through.
Spammers change their ways to get their message through.

Don't know about McAfee, since I never used it.
Even on my laptop, I removed that trial immediately and replaced it with Kaspersky. Don't like Symantec of McAfee too much.

Same as with KIS, I guess it checks the incoming messages before releasing them to Barca.
Just try it out, so you'll know how it works.

Good luck with it.

Well it certainly isn't doing anything yet - hence the question wondering if anyone knows how I set it up. :)

I think your point about not being easy to fish out spam is fine, but Barca does do a particularly terrible job at it. To get multiple messages with Viagra in the subject line in my inbox - it doesn't take a genius to figure out that those ones are spam. :)

If it's McAfee Spamkiller, user quide can be downloaded from:
http://us.mcafee.com/common/en-us/redir ... rGuide.asp

It seems it needs some configuration, which shall be automatic, if no success it seems you'll need to enter your actual account configuration data into Spamkiller, and in Pocomail change the incoming email server to localhost

Hi Tomas,

Thanks very much for the reply. I think it used to be called SpamKiller, but I can't see any options like that anywhere. The help that comes with it is particularly useless too.

I think I'll have to brave mcafee support. :(

Well I finally had a go and after a typically pointless and long-winded support process was told that the new version doesn't support this and that they removed the feature.

Great way to improve a product!

I did find a webmail setting that I suspect probably does do the same thing (with a confusing name) but I think that'll have to wait for another time. I'll update here if I ever get anything working.

Weird customer support - I managed to get an IM session with someone, but I'm sure they were just an AI. (If so why did it take so long to connect? If not, where do they get these people from??)
