Detected as junk but not moved to Junk folder

Hi

I'm facing a strange problem. I added a domain to the banned senders, and it detects the mail as spam. However, the mail is still appearing in the In inbox rather than moved to the Junk Mail folder.

I have "Enable Automatic Junk Mail filtering" On and "After downloading message, place message to Junk mailbox, delete message from server"

Can you check the message headers to see if the junk headers are present in the message? If they are not then I suspect there is a prior filter causing the message not to be processed (look for either a filter that moves the message to the IN box or one with a Stop processing action).

I have already deleted that mail, but I retrieved a copy using VMOS (I have LMOS checked for 3 days). No Junk headers.

My filters are simple

From For this@email if found move trash
---- ---- On all mail run Junk
etc

The etc are just sorting the mail to different folders based on To email. Nothing funny there.

I just received another fresh one from the same domain.

Code: Select all
Status: U
X-Poco-Score-Detail: -100 [%BAYES%=P=0;T=99;BIAS=+30] (%bayes% P=0;T=99;Bias=+30)
X-Poco-Score-Detail: +3 [X-MAILER=] (X-Mailer )
X-Poco-Score-Detail: +4 [SUBJECT=!!] (Subject !!)
X-Poco-Score-Detail: -4 [TO=%ADDRESSBOOKS%]OR[CC=%ADDRESSBOOKS%] (To %addressbooks%, or Cc %addressbooks%)
X-Poco-Score-Detail: +2 [FROM=%ADDRESSBOOKS%] (From %addressbooks%)
X-Poco-Score-Detail: +100 [FROM=%JUNKSENDERS%] (From %junksenders%)
X-Poco-Scored: +5

I also noticed something very strange. If I move the mail to the Junk Mail folder and do a Apply and Test, the Bayesian filter becomes +100 instead of -100.

The change of the BF score from -100 to +100 is very interesting. A negative BF score indicates the BF filters initially thought the message was not junk but now that it has been moved to the Junk folder they think it has. I think the act of moving a message to the junk folder implicitly updates the BF good and spam corpuses so this may explain that behaviour. Next time please try the Apply and Test both before and after moving the message.

The BF score changes whenever I move the mail into/from the Spam Inbox. Even now, all the time. 100 reproducible.

Even more strange, is the mail should be classified as Junk, because Poco scored +5.

Like I said, my filters are of this order

1st Match one To address, move to junk
2nd BF filter, run Junk mail filter
3rd Match other email, move to other inbox.

So it should be moved to junk at 2nd filter, but it didn't. bug?

A score of +5 normally isn't enough to move a message to junk. You can tailor this level from the "Tools | Junk Mail Filters..." window (General Settings tab) but, unless you set a custom value, the values used will be 10 for high. I believe 12 is used for medium and I can't recall what value is used for low.
