Barca crashing and double importing

Postby 1skywriter » Fri Jul 30, 2004 10:02 am

OK, I've been playing with Barca for a few weeks and I like it a lot especially the calendar, planner and reminders. They're great.

The only difference I'm seeing between this and regular Pocomail is that Barca crashes a couple of times a day, and it's not clear why that's true. Each time it happens, (Win XP) it auto-sends a note and screenshot to Slaven or whoever is playing Slaven.

The other annoying thing is it often double-imports mail. I can see it on the server by looking at it on the Web thru the ISP interface outside of Barca but then I watch as Barca imports two of everything. This is not as annoying as the crashing.

Ideas anyone?

Thanks.

I've been waiting to see if there is any type of response, but Barca has been crashing on me regularly. 1-5 times a day. Most times, I allow the crash data to be sent back to PocoSystems, but I sure would like to know if anything is being done to address the problems.

It is POSSIBLE, these new crashes are related to a HP 6110 All in One driver. Of course, I can't do without the driver. I only suggest this as a possibility as the problems appear (as far as my old memory allows) to have begun around the same time as I added the Fax/Printer.

Barca crashing and double importing

Yes, I am still waiting for someone at Pocomail to say something, anything about Barcas crashing. I am getting discouraged and am now relying more on Gmail than Barca because of the unexplained crashes. I continue to allow messages and screen shots to be sent back to Pocomail.

By the way, I don't think this has anything to do with new drivers in my case because I haven't installed any new ones.

Could you post the circumstances under which it is crashing - the sequence of steps that you have taken or events that has happened. Have you created or deleted mailboxes, accounts etc, compressing mailboxes etc? It may be that what you are seeing is a known problem but without knowing how it happeneds to you...

I have Barca running typically all day and while it is not crash-free, I don't see it as frequently as you do. Simply saying "it crashes" without giving any details does not allow PSI to try and get to the root of the problem. The crash report merely sends internal status information from Barca but does not detail the actions that led to it.

WRT to double-importing - are you using any "intermediate" software such as virus checker (which?), spam checker (?) or web-mail to POP converter (since you mention Gmail)?

I have Barca open from 8 AM to 5 PM M-F, and I haven't had any email related crashes. I do seem to have problems changing address books. If I don't pause a few seconds after selecting a new address book, I get a error message, although the app does not crash.

++Yesterday it crashed while compressing mailboxes. I'll take note of what else is going on in future crashes.

++ZoneAlarm Pro is installed -- need I change a setting? ; no Web-mail to POP converter.

There is a known problem with compressing mailboxes that should be addressed in the next release.

Shouldn't do, expecially if the problem seems to be limited to the "Compress Mailbox" issue.

OK-- I'll watch to see if it's only happening on compression. Could be.

There's one other issue.

When I View Mail on Server, and select Get and then Process, it doesn't Get.

Thanks for your observations.

That may be because you did not mark the message for "Get"ting. You have to double click on each message you want to "Get". The status of the message will be changed to 'GL'. Referencing the help file inside Barca should be helpful.

Barca runs 24/7 on my computer.

It crashes while changing mailboxes, compressing mailboxes, checking mail and more. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason that I have been able to ascertain.

I used Barca very little yesterday and it crashed upon changing mailboxes and then again later when compressing mailboxes.

Your experience contradicts what the majority of us are experiencing. With no way of knowing how- and your setup- you use Barca, one can only conjecture that your installation is corrupt. Try doing a clean install (new directory and NOT over an existing installation) and then downloading your data from the server. If that fixed the problem, you can then move the data from your old installation.

Whoa-- my data (mail boxes etc.) are not on a server-- they are on my hard drive. When Barca was announced to PocoMail users, I downloaded Barca over Pocomail, which worked fine.
I will certainly uninstall Barcan and then do a clean re-install for Barca. And then I can move the mailboxes over as I keep the backups on a separate drive anyway.
Is that what you have in mind?
