Attachmetns Not Always Deleted

Postby huntnyc » Tue Jul 27, 2004 6:35 am

Sometimes my attachments remain when I want them deleted. When I delete an email, I do get the dialog to ask if I want to delete attchments. I believe this works but I don't know if attachments are deleted when a message goes to the Junk folder and then when I emtyp that folder. If I delete manually from Junk folder, they are delted.

Not exactly sure of this behavior but maybe some of you can check it out on your systems please.

Thanks.

Hi Gary,

very good observation! I did a test with just one message, and not on Barca but with Pocomail, and it happened exactly as outlined - attachment stayed in the Attach folder.

The occasional attachments not deleted were bugging me for so long, so hopefully now the cause is uncovered, unless other people will have different test results.

I notice also that when I set a filter to place messages automatically in Trash that have certain file attachments and then I let Trash empty automatically on Exit, the attachments are not deleted from the Attach folder. I wish this behavior was different so they would be deleted whether you manually delte, empty Junk or empty Trash on exit.

Totally agree with this what are the chances of this being done before I part with some money :) It seems like such a straight forward issue otherwise it could be a nightmare having to sift through all those attachments

Attachment not deleted

Postby polymath » Thu Aug 12, 2004 8:58 am

This has been the behavior of PocoMail as far as I remember. If you filter the message directly to junk mail or trash folder and empty the folder, any attachments associated with the messages will become orphans and stay within the attachment folder unless manually deleted.

Hopefully, this will be a new option in the future version (delete attachment when emptying junk or tash folder).

Have we heard any official reply

This seems to be no brainer for me (as far as having it as a feature in PocoMail), but has anyone heard anything from the company?

I just don't understand why it is so difficult to implement something that makes so much sense.

I fully agree. Such an option (delete attachment when emptying junk or tash folder) would be very useful.

Generally, I don't want to delete attachments when a message is moved to the trash folder, but when it is deleted from the trash folder.
