Delete w/o going to Trash?

Postby gbrinck » Mon Oct 11, 2004 12:04 am

I can't find any info on this in PM Help or Searching the forum, so am wondering if anybody here can help.

I get messages that I want to delete and know I never want to see them again. For example, a notification from my ISP that a virus laden email has been detected and filtered out before reaching my mailbox. I would like to delete such messages from my In box without having them go to Trash (which merely requires that I delete them again, either individuall or by Emptying Trash :( ).

Is there any way when I delete a message that I can indicate that I want immediate, full deletion rather than moving the message to Trash? :?:

If you receive the message in your InBox and delete it, it ends up in the Trash.
If you don't want to see these messages at all, you can set up a pre-download filter for such messages, so they don't end up in your InBox.

I hope this helps.

I would prefer not to do that since it would delete all such messages without me seeing them. The reason for the filtered notification messages is to give me the opportunity to either salvage the filtered message or to notify the sender to clean up his computer and re-send an uninfected email. Another example of mail I might like to fully delete immadiately is an advertisement I am not interested in. I don't want to delete all such ad emails without reading, but often I know have no further interest in the topic.

Many email clients allow one to hold the Ctrl or Shift key to signifiy that Trash can be bypassed. Iwas hoping some such mechanism existed in Poco.

By the way, Eric, I'm a long time Poco user but I had to re-register to be able to post here. My old login would not be accepted (I had the id and password written down, so am fairly sure I got it tight). I haven't visited here in quite awhile - were inactive ids perhaps purged? Not a problem - I'm just curious.

Ok, you want to see the message, so no need for a pre-download filter.
Try the Control + Shift + Delete. Just tried it out, never needed that.

It's a new forum, so everyone, including me had to re-register. :?
