Partial Backup?

Postby FFF » Thu Sep 24, 2009 6:58 pm

Hi,
i'm looking how to "partially" backup a folder. I.e., i have one with 10000 messages, about 80% of them are older than 2 years, so i don't need immediate access anymore, but can't delete them as i need the archive (including the corresponding attachments) to exist.
Thought about creating simply a new folder, moving those 80% there, but that still will burden Poco for scanning, compress etc.

Any insights/better ideas anyone?
TIA
Karl

What I have done:

    Make a new folder Archive (ie: 2001, 2002 ... 2007)
Make subfolders for each mail folder I wish to archive
Go to the folder I wish to archive (ie: DateBK)
    Sort by date
Copy all mails from Jan 1 2005 thru Dec 31 2005 to Archive| DateBK
Once I confirm the messages have copied properly I then delete from the source folder

Using the search you can of course find all e-mails that are within a time range and use that as a starting point.

Since the 'archived' folder will not get new messages added, after the initial compress all is good. Once a year I will burn to CD/DVD as a backup, safety copy.

Also as a second level I will use mailbag Assistant (Fookes Software) to archive, search any old mail stores. If over 4 years the mails are only in Mailbag (folders deleted from Pocomail).
