Importing your data into Barca

Messages and Contacts

Barca provides many interfaces for importing messages and contacts from other applications. The method you chose will depend on the application from which you are importing your data from, and the format in which the data is stored.

Calendar

Barca provides the functionality for importing and exporting Barca in .ICS and .VCS formats; this are the standard calendar formats.  However, many of the major calendar programs do not export calendar in .ICS or .VCS formats.  The other two main formats supported by most calendar programs are .DBA (date book archive), supported by Palm OS devices, and .CSV (comma separated value) formats.  Support for the .DBA and .CSV formats is complicated by the fact that the ordering of exported data fields in the .CSV and .DBA format is not the same across all calendar programs. The situation is further complicated by frequent changes (modifications, additions, and subtractions) in the data fields included in different calendar programs.  Despite this complication, most calendar programs support export/import into Outlook and Palm OS devices.  As a result, Poco Systems has documented series of data import steps that addresses calendar export from the major calendar programs by using Palm OS Handheld and Outlook as intermediate programs to enable the data transfer.

Outlook will import/export calendar in .CSV and .ICS foramts.  Palm OS devices import/export calendar in .DBA formats.  Palm devices can also be synced with Outlook and other calendar programs.  Extracted calendar files can be converted into a .ICS format and imported into Barca using Barca’s File > Import feature.
